Renowned as an international leader in Brazilian Samba education, Escola de Samba Denver is Colorado's only internationally accredited samba school and performing company that is the sister school of Escola de Samba Sydney under the tutelage of international performing artist Sashya Jay. Escola de Samba Denver is dedicated to providing progressive Brazilian dance education that is aligned with the latest and evolving dance techniques and artistic styles in Brazil, always with authenticity and respect for the roots of the culture at our core. About Us

Under the vision & leadership of Director, Caitlin Brozna-Smith, Escola de Samba Denver was formed in 2021 as a sister satellite school to our flagship Escola de Samba Sydney and is home to 5 teaching staff members. Our instructors traveled to Rio in 2023  to train with the masters and performed in Rio Carnaval and have been official Passistas of União de Jacarepaguá and Sambistas for Unidos de Bangu.

Gratidão! A beautiful day at Colorado Pirate Fest yesterday. We celebrated with our comunidade performing Samba de Bahia and Samba Reggae, honoring Samba’s raízes as an integral part of Brazilian culture and history.
Malandragem! Working that Malandro (masculine styling from Rio) technique and syncopation. For this exercise, our dancers had to clap the beat while dancing the steps which is challenging when you go from tempo to contra tempo.

Drilling this week to a slow Batucada finding our vibe and gingado. This week’s challenge was clapping the Samba Clave while dancing to the samba rhythm. The samba clave is a cross rhythm that syncopates itself from the main beat so it is a challenging layer for dancers to accomplish! Samba Drills Tues 5:30 pm
Our sweet Samba Beginners getting their vibe on in last night’s class. Our focus was executing proper timing on the samba step and feeling continuous hip movement during our rebolas with traveling weight transfers. Whew!! Vai com tudo meninas!!
